GIT Therapeutical Programmes
Dhara: The medicated oil is applied on the patient’s head and body and he is made to lie on a wooden plank specially made for this purpose. Then a continuous stream of the prescribed medicine (medicated oil, decoction, milk etc.) is made to drop gently describing an arc or ellipse on his forehead and head. For this, a specially devised apparatus is made and fixed at a prescribed height. This process is continued for an hour or hour and half. After the dhara, the head is fully dried with a towel and again oil is applied to the head. This treatment is good, especially, in curing cervical spondylitis, chronic headache, insanity, hysteria, hallucination etc.
Sirodhara: Highly medicated special oil is poured on to the forehead continually. This will refresh the brain and will improve memory. This treatment is also good for preventing and curing diseases like paralysis, senile dementia and other neurological ailments.
Pizhichil: The patient is made to lie on a wooden plank as in Dhara. Then a piece of linen dipped in warm medicated oil is squeezed over on to the patient’s body. With the warm oil spreading on the patient’s body, the patient is given gentle massage by four masseurs. This is done only on the body below the neck and the duration can be from one to one and half hours. Pizhichil is found effective in treating rheumatism, spondylitis, wastage of muscles etc. It is also effective to cure TB.
Navarakkizhi: This is done with small linen bags filled with cooked Navara rice after a liberal application of the medicated oil over the whole body. This rice is cooled in cow’s milk with certain decoction. The bag is then dipped in the same mixture and then applied by the masseurs over the body of the patient. The process is continued for one to one and half hours. After wiping the body with a dry towel, the medicated oil is again applied.
Elakizhi: Fried herbal leaves tied in cloth boluses which is thereafter dipped in hot medicated oil is applied to the whole body. This treatment is for osteoarthritis with swelling, spondylosis, sport injuries and for all other soft tissue inflammations especially joint pains.
Sirovasti: The treatment consists of keeping the prescribed medicated oil on the head by fitting a leather cap round it. It is kept for one to one and half hours. Generally the course is given for seven days. It is found effective in regimental neuralgia, hemicranias, optic atrophy, nostalgia, deadness, facial paralysis and in all diseases affecting cranial nerves.
Kadivasthi: Medicated oil is retained about an hour on the lower back and this procedure is used for lumbar spondylosis, inter vertebral disc prolepses, lumbago.
Panchakarma in GIT:
Our highly effective Panchakarma (five fold purification therapy) treatment is employed to eradicate diseases like paralysis, arthritis, rheumatism, skin diseases and mental disorders. This includes medicated oil enema, decoction enema, purgation with medicines, induced vomiting with medicines and nasal medication. This treatment is also useful in cases of sub fertility and impotence.
Avagaha swedam: A medicinal decoction is prepared in a bathtub and the patient is allowed to sit or lay in the bathtub so that the affected part gets fully immersed in the decoction. This is used for neuromuscular disorders, backache, urine retention and lower abdominal inflammations.
Udwarthanam: It is a deep dry massage using herbal powders. This reduces obesity, imparts mobility to joints, strengthens muscles and refreshes the body.
Tharpanam: Medicated ghee is retained for 20 minutes in the eyes. This relieves the strain from eyes, improves eyesight and nourishes the nerves.
